Sometimes, a sci-fi fantasy tries to tell us something about relationships and their effect on the future. All three films are about separation, a permanent separation from a family, a temporary separation because of an affliction, and a balancing act between one’s home and the mission assigned. All three present us with a different view of how to overcome separation, or at least deal with it. Films include Amidst the Stars by Dustin Morrow, Last Light by Gregory Schroeder, and We Band of Brothers by Ethan Marth.
