4:30 PM: Eyewitness to History: The Marquis de Lafayette Visits Morristown at Venue 21B, Macculloch Hall, Nast Center Hall Gallery
Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s triumphant return to Morristown on July 14, 1825! Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolution, first brought critical news of French aid to George Washington in Morristown in 1780. Forty-five years later, as part of his grand 1824-1825 US tour, he was honored with a welcoming ceremony on the Green, followed by receptions and a supper. Local figures, including Louisa and Mary Macculloch, helped decorate for this historic visit.
