Glenn Alexander & Shadowland – 10:45 PM
Venue 11 (Mayo Performing Arts Center), 10:45 PM (Music)
Shadowland evokes a sense of unreality – mysterious phantoms in an indeterminate place, shrouded in uncertainty. Shadowland was also the name of a roadhouse club where the first electric guitar debuted in 1932 in Wichita, Kansas – which also happens to be the town where guitarist extraordinaire Glenn Alexander cut his teeth – both literally and musically. The music of Glenn Alexander & Shadowland brings these two seemingly disparate notions together into a band that evokes the soulful vibe of a historic honky tonk, while keeping you guessing on what’s comin’ next. What can you expect from Shadowland? The only expectation is to show up, have a good time and soak up some damn good music. At its core, Shadowland is guitar-driven, horn-laced, in-your-face, rockin’, bluesdrenched music. Comprised of members of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Shadowland is a band with a big sound – a killing rhythm section, three horns, backup singers. Glenn Alexander & Shadowland is a band with a big sound – a killing rhythm section, three horns, backup singers and is comprised of several members of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, including Chris Anderson (Southside Johnny, Celia Cruz); John Isley (Southside Johnny, Diana Ross); and Neal Pawley (Southside Johnny, Tom Jones). Shadowland also boasts Greg Novick (Bernie Worrell); Dave Anthony (Dennis DeYoung, Glen Burtnik) and Oria on lead and background vocals. All are accomplished musicians in their own right, but together form a super group that combines rock, soul, blues and roots music in a unique and rockin’ way.
